Don’t miss this MTB trail when riding SIMCOE COUNTY
Chances are that if you have been looking for places to ride your mountain bike north of Toronto you may have noticed a fair amount of trails in the Simcoe County Forests! If your already planning a day trip or weekend up this way, you won’t want to miss riding a full day of track combos in the Oro Medonte Line Seven Trail Network. This being said… There is one favorite trail in this network that is a must!
Creeks Black is a Must ride kind of Mountain Bike trail!
The award winning Creeks Black Trial is the heart of the Oro Line Seven Network and is the only option in my mind if you were stopping by and had only enough time to ride one. It’s also smack dab in the middle of the trail network so the are many ways to combo this area while including the Creeks Black trail. So, make sure you don’t miss my personal favorite local track while your here!
What make Creeks Black So Great?
We can start with a fun factor of ten! This track is quick and playful with a few skinnies, some fun stumps and rocks to pop off of, some rollercoaster like switchbacks and a bunch of wood bridges over (You Guessed it!!!) creeks that roll through this gorgeous forrest. There are a couple short climbs in there that will definitely get your heart pumping and give you a good sense of accomplishment, but nothing long enough to trigger boredom.
The genius of this track though, is in its design. Creeks black is essentially a loop made of three small loops. The first is a kiddy loop, then an intermediate, and an expert loop following that. Basically you will start with a fast yet easy warm up with a great starter skinny in there, and then thing just get progressively more intense and challenging from there. The second section gets very fast and playful while giving your that thrill of riding close to a few hillside edges that give you a stunning view of the forest. Then the third section takes you to the lowest elevation through some long boggy and challenging log boardwalks (that are clearly there for the mud, so beware of the third section in the spring or after a crazy rain storm), up and over some serious skinnies that are optional, and finally up all that elevation you just came down from (Creeks Red, as seen below) but with a few fun spots to break up the climb.
When you put all this together you get a ridiculously fun and challenging one hour’ish workout. Just a heads up though! That third and lower section is pretty much a wash in the spring. You can either cut it short or combo it with the tracks all around from the the end of the first or second section.
My Favorite way to Combo Creeks Black is!!!
Start with Creeks Black at the line 7 trailhead, then cut across the road to Strachan Track Red at the second double track that cuts off the Lower Creeks Black Section. From there you can do the full Strachan Track Loop, or if you want to go big, throw in the connector to Breedon halfway through that. When you finish the Strachan loop you’ll be right back at your car!
I really hope this post helped you and I hope to see you out on the trails! Make sure to check out my youtube rides for the real life experiences. I’ll make sure to include a video for my recommended combo soon. Thanks for reading!
